| Round 3 - Race Report | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Early Saturday morning, I heard the rain on the roof
of my motorhome and was thinking that at least we would not have to deal
with the dust. However, when the sun came up, the winds blew and helped
dry the track.
The PeeWee riders started the day in the mud. The clay mud was too thick for many of the riders but they tried their best to race. Clay Willis was the winner in the PeeWee class and Andrew VanAtta was the Super PeeWee winner. Youth quad riders had a blast!! They were able to maneuver their quads through the mud. Brianna Walker was the winner in the Girls class followed by Cassidy Tyler and Alex Rhoades. By 10:00 o’clock, the sun had appeared and most of the clay had dried. There were several close races in the different classes. Dalton Hall and Taylor Johnson were close together in crossing the finish line as were Brody Johnson and Colby Burks. A few minutes after 12:00, the bikes were taking off for the woods. Paul Whibley captured the holeshoot with nine other Pro riders right behind him. The hill climb was the deciding factor in the Bike race as well as the afternoon Quad race. Pro rider Jason Gilleland lost his battle with the hill. Wayne Beaty proved once again that having experience is very helpful, especially on the hills. Cooper Bailey, Tyler MacDonald and Seth Murray were the top three AA riders. Three o’clock bring the Quads to the starting line. Some of the Quad riders had an encounter of the close kind with the guard rail on the flat track. Luckily, they were not injured. Dustin Canipe took the holeshot but had to battle with Cook and Hoyland for the next ninety minutes. Cook got close but had problems with the clutch on his quad. Once again, the hill claimed victims. George Mayes lost his clutches, Romon Bivings flipped his quad and many others have stories to tell about "the hill." Angela Horn was taking pictures, not racing, and she was a victim of that hill. At the end, Dustin Canipe crossed the finish line first followed by Hoyland then Cook. Hope to see everybody on April 17th at Harris Bridge in Woodruff SC |
